Setting the Scene
In recent years, Bulgaria has made significant progress in developing its business events landscape. Modern venues, upgraded infrastructure and expanding capacities across cities such as Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas are creating strong conditions for hosting events of increasing scale and ambition. At the same time, a growing number of destinations and resort regions, including Bansko, Borovets, Stara Zagora, Velingrad and Albena, to name just a few among many attractive locations across the country, are playing an increasingly important role, particularly in incentive travel, corporate retreats and specialised event formats. Complemented by strong connectivity through the country’s airport hubs in Sofia, Varna and Burgas, Bulgaria continues to strengthen its accessibility and appeal as a well-rounded events destination.

Alongside this, the industry itself has matured. A growing community of agencies, producers, technical experts and service providers is now operating with international standards, delivering diverse events across business, corporate, cultural and institutional contexts, and contributing to the sector’s steady advancement.
And yet, until recently, one essential element was missing.
While the broader landscape has become increasingly active, with a growing number of exhibitions, forums and initiatives across tourism, hospitality and business, there was no single, dedicated platform focused specifically on the Bulgarian meetings and events industry — a space where the full ecosystem could come together with a shared purpose.
This was the starting point for EXPO EVENT INDUSTRY 2026 (EEI2026).
With the launch of EEI 2026, we set out to create more than an event. We set out to build a national platform, one that connects the entire value chain of the Bulgarian meetings and events sector, encourages meaningful dialogue, and strengthens its positioning both regionally and internationally. It was conceived as a space shaped by the industry itself, co-led by the Bulgarian Convention Bureau, and open to professionals, venues, suppliers, destinations, associations, corporate clients, institutions and academia alike.
The response confirmed that the need for such a platform was real.
The first edition brought together over 420 participants and visitors, 34 exhibitors, 46 speakers and 17 sessions across two days. More importantly, it created something that numbers alone cannot fully capture: a sense of energy, openness and shared direction. Conversations were genuine, connections were formed, and the industry came together not only to showcase its capabilities, but to define its future. The feedback and engagement clearly demonstrated that EEI is not simply another event in the calendar, but a meaningful step towards greater cohesion and visibility for the sector.
Building on this strong foundation, EEI 2027 marks the next stage of this journey.
The ambition now is to deepen and expand what has already begun. To further strengthen the content and its relevance, to bring in more international perspectives and partnerships, to develop the exhibition into a dynamic marketplace for innovation and collaboration, and to engage even more actively with cities, regions, institutions and businesses across the country.
At its core, however, the vision remains unchanged.
EEI continues to stand as a platform created by the industry, for the industry. A place where professionals meet not only to exchange ideas, but to build long-term value together. It reflects the maturity of the Bulgarian meetings and events sector, while also shaping its future direction.
EEI 2027 is not just a continuation. It is a natural evolution and an open invitation to move forward together.
Save the date: 27–28 January 2027, Sofia. Stay tuned.
